Following recent changes to the configuration of the venue and to AC/DC’s production requirements, a limited number of tickets for both Wellington shows are now available.
The additional seats are priced at just $99* and guarantee an uninhibited view of the entire stage area – the largest stage ever to be constructed for a New Zealand concert. The action will focus not only on the main stage at one end of the Venue, but also along a huge runway through the audience area.
The world’s greatest rock band AC/DC smashed New Zealand box office records when tickets to their BLACK ICE WORLDTOUR went on sale for their Wellington and Auckland shows this week.
More than 85,000 tickets have been sold across the two cities – that’s 1 in 50 New Zealanders buying a ticket to the rock and roll extravaganza.
Tuesday – the day AC/DC went on sale -- was Ticketek’s biggest sales day in Wellington ever! More tickets were sold on the internet than ever before for a Wellington event. And AC/DC’s smashed the record for the fastest ever rollover to a second show for a stadium event in Wellington.
Due to the huge demand, a second and final wellington concert was put on sale within hours of the first going on sale.
Tickets to 2nd Wellington show on Saturday January 30 – are still available through Ticketek ... but fans are urged to be quick!
In Auckland, 48,000 tickets were sold in three hours – again setting the benchmark for the fast selling concert in Auckland’s history. Tickets are still available for this concert with Ticketmaster.
Concert promoter Garry Van Egmond is ecstatic with the response from New Zealand.
“There has been huge demand for tickets to AC/DC all around the world and New Zealand proved it’s no exception. You love the band as much as everyone else.
“Fans now span the generations. We had people queuing in Auckland and Wellington through the night to be first in line on Tuesday morning. They ranged in age from five upwards. AC/DC has such broad appeal and the concert is no ordinary concert. It’s an event.”
AC/DC will blast their way through New Zealand with one of the largest stage productions ever seen. The production will be moved around the country by 48 semi-trailers.
Mr Van Egmond says that Western Springs is tipped to be the “jewel in the crown” of the Australasian tour.
“It’s iconic as a concert venue and it’s natural amphitheatre makes it one of the best places to hold a rock concert in this part of the world.”
It will be the band’s first time in New Zealand for 13 years and will - without any question - produce the most spectacular event ever staged in this country.
DUE to huge demand, a 2nd and final Wellington concert is now on sale.
The second show will play at Westpac Stadium on Saturday, January 30, 2010.
Tickets are now available from Ticketek.
Concert promoter Garry Van Egmond said he is delighted with New Zealand's reaction to the onsale this morning.
"We had people queuing in Auckland and Wellington overnight. It was phenomenal.," says Van Egmond.
"In just three hours we had sold 40,000 tickets. We don't want anyone to miss out on seeing the world's biggest rock band so we've decided to put the 2nd and final Wellington show on sale."
The New Zealand concerts come on the back of the release of the hugely successful Black Ice album. Released on October 20, 2008 on Albert Productions and distributed by Sony Music, Black Ice sold close to 2 million copies globally in the first week of release and debuted at the number one spot in a staggering 29 countries.
